What sits behind it
A service holding all the rules and data, a payment provider for cards, a separate system for property and rooms that EMS partners with, and a shared library of definitions used by both.
Names you will see that mean nothing to a customer: VMS is an old name for EMS and survives in some repository and hosting names. Cardinal is the in-house toolkit the service is built on.
